The academics of the Department of Architecture and Conservation and the Department of Architectural Environment Design, the Institute of Architecture and Design, Lviv Polytechnic, successfully completed an international business trip to Kingston University London, Great Britain.
The trip lasted from March 5 to March 11, 2023, the purpose of which was teaching practice and exchange of experience under the international credit mobility program Erasmus+.
Kingston University is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in Great Britain. The academic mobility program took place at Kingston School of Art, an educational and scientific institute which has a number of peculiarities in the educational process. In particular, it is worth noting the large number of hours dedicated to layout and sketch design in manual graphics.
During the academic mobility program, representatives of Lviv Polytechnic attended a number of practical classes and lectures taught for students of various years of study. The academics of the Institute of Architecture and Design also gave several lectures:
- «Architectural modeling as a means of popularizing cultural heritage, history and identity» – Maksym Yasinskyi, Candidate of Architecture, Associate Professor at the DAC Department;
- «Reconstruction of residential buildings of previous historical eras and styles» – Iryna Pohranychna, Doctor of Architecture, Assistant Professor at the DAC Department;
- «Main aspects of preserving cultural heritage during the reconstruction of historical cities» – Yuliia Frolova, Candidate of Architecture, Assistant at the DAC Department;
- «Ukraine is the new showcase of Europe. The current state of architecture and urban design of Ukraine in the conditions of war and the prospects of post-war reconstruction of the country» – Bohdan Hoi, Doctor of Architecture, Associate Professor at the AED Department.
Thanks to participation in the academic mobility program, it was possible to identify appropriate and promising directions for adjusting the educational process at the Institute of Architecture and Design, Lviv Polytechnic. In particular, there are important differences in the organization of the educational process within the subject «Architectural design», which involves the development of a number of sketch design proposals, work with the design environment and the design object itself in architectural and constructive aspects.
The faculty of Kingston University have been invited to conduct online lectures for Lviv Polytechnicians in order to develop further cooperation between the universities and improve the educational process and cultural exchange.
