On February 19, at the invitation of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, Vice-Rector for International Relations Nataliia Chukhrai and Director of the Ukrainian-Japanese Center at Polytechnic Scientific and Technical Library Ihor Zorii participated in the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Japanese Emperor Naruhito.

The event took place at the Embassy in Kyiv. This is the first celebration of the new emperor as only last year he ascended the throne.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, Mr. Takashi Kurai, addressed the topic of Japanese-Ukrainian relations in his speech. In particular, he noted that during all the years of Ukraine’s independence, Japan has allocated large amounts of money to support various projects in our country, which mainly concerned the system of decentralization and support of various medical and educational institutions. Ambassador’s main message: Japan supports territorial integrity of Ukraine and never recognizes the annexation of the Crimean peninsula, said Mr. Zorii.

In addition to Polytechnicians, representatives of governmental and educational institutions, politicians and others participated in the celebration.

Within the framework of the event, the Polytechnic Vice-Rector Nataliia Chukhrai got acquainted with the Director of the Ukrainian-Japanese Center at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Kateryna Luhovska. According to Ihor Zorii, this is the first step to potential cooperation between our Universities and Ukrainian-Japanese Centers as well.
