From May 5 to 12, 2019, the Department of Design and Architecture Fundamentals and the Department of Architectural Design of Lviv Polytechnic National University, in cooperation with TU Wien, conducted an urban workshop in Slavutych. The city is interesting for researchers in the context of analyzing the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster and understanding the functioning of the urban heritage of the Soviet era.

6 students of the Department of Architectural Design and 9 students from TU Wien participated in the workshop. The event was funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.

Within the workshop, the municipal authorities of Slavutych contributed to the organization of the excursion to the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the city of Prypiat. It was a valuable experience for the workshop and the awareness of the consequences of the tragedy. Also, the Regional Development Agency of Slavutych was actively involved in the workshop.

The main purpose of the workshop was to study Slavutych through Urban mapping and to identify its potential or problem areas. After the introduction by the curators of the event, Inge Manka and Michael Hieslmair, students were divided into mixed groups of two people and accordingly chose a joint topic of research.

In accordance with the tasks and methodology, students conducted research by questioning the inhabitants of the city and constantly making sketches of some interesting locations.

The results of the research were exhibited on the main square of Slavutych in the presence of locals and municipal authorities. Representatives of the Regional Development Agency noted that the work done will be used for the development of Slavutych.
